Welcome aboard the University of Pittsburgh mobile lab! We’re hitting the road to bring the world-class research of the University to the middle and high schools of our region by inviting students and teachers to roll up their sleeves and work one-on-one with real scientists doing real science.
If it’s happening in our research labs, it’s happening in the mobile lab. Genetics. Developmental Biology. Environmental Science. You’ll conduct experiments, use high tech equipment, and discover for yourself the ways that everyday science impacts your day-to-day life.
Contact Us today if your school is interested in a visit from the mobile lab!
The fall SciTech Days were held at the Carnegie Science Center November 5-8, 2013. The event, which connects middle and high school students with STEM professionals from academic, corporate, and professional societies from throughout Western Pennsylvania, hosted over 2,000 students over the course of the week. Pitt continued its annual involvement with the festival by hosting a workshop on its Mobile Laboratory as well as an indoor exhibit that featured research from scientists in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Medical School. Students got a chance to learn about the various types of research going on in the University, including zebrafish heart development, mouse skeletal development, the evolution of butterfly coloration, protein structure and function, and computational molecular modeling. Thank you to the Morehouse, VanDemark, Chapman, and Roman labs for their contributions and participation! The students’ enthusiasm was evident, and we are already looking forward to seeing a new group of students at the spring SciTech Festival in March!
